The dues collected are used to register each boy nationally, subscribe to "Boy's Life," purchase supplemental accident insurance, buy merit badges, support advancement expenses, buy Court of Honor refreshments, fund a donation tto the church, contribute to administrative costs (stamps for the award-winning Anthill Times, etc.) and, lastly support our Scoutmaster's outlandish salary. PLease bring the registration fee of #35, due from each scout, to next Monday's meeeting.
The trip started Saturday at 8:00 AM from the church.
Alex got everyone organized and i their vehicles as
quickly as he could. After a 40 minute ride, we parked, unloaded the cars
and loaded up a big motor boat which took us across the Delaware River to
Treasure Island.
We hiked our gear into a small camping area and set up the tents. After
scout around to find firewood, the second acttivity of the day began,
Frisbee Foottball. There were no real teams in this game (since players
continuously switched teams and since new players kept on coming in), but
nevertheless, it was still fun. At first, we were only playing for fun,
but towards the end of the game we kept score. It was a grueling match,
but in the end, one team won 2-1.
THere were a variety of meals cooked on the different campfires that
night. There was beef stew, fruit cocktail, hamburgers, ground beef with
vegetables, and more. After dinner, we had the final event of the day,
Capture the Flag. When it was getting late, Mr. G had to send a couple of
scouts to bring back the missing people. They finally came back at 10:30
PM. That was it for Saturday.
Sunday morning we still had time for one more Frisbee Football game. The
action was intense. This was a great way to end a camping trip.
Afterwards, we loaded the boat with our gear and then unloaded it into
"The Animal" and got going. We were back at the church by 1:00 where our
parents were waiting.
A refundable deposit of $100 is now being collected on a first come, first
served basis by Chad. The dates of the trip will be June 26 - July 13,
1999. This is slightly longer than last year's 11 day excursion becausee
traiing sessions and a rafting trip will also be included in the fee.
Thee excptional scenery and great camping experience are certainly a once
in a lifetime experience for anyone. If there are any Dads out there who
might be interested in hiking along, please speak to Wendell. Rumor has
it that John M has been practicing burro racing all year so that he can
top his Philmont 1997 scores. Philmont is that type of incredible
adventure that only Boy Scouting can offer!
Plans for the 1998 High Adventure will involve a less expensive trip, but
will be geared towards preparing for the Philmont trip.
Treasure Island Camping Trip
